Collaborative Research on Livebearing Fishes

The Goodeid Conservation and Research Stock Centre in Vodňany maintains captive populations of endangered goodeids and other rare livebearing fishes. We welcome inquiries from researchers and institutions interested in developing joint research projects. As our programme develops, we hope to make captive-bred specimens available to research and conservation partners.

Available stock categories

We maintain strictly managed breeding colonies to preserve genetic integrity and provide healthy, documented fish for conservation studbooks and scientific study.

Endangered Goodeids

Core conservation populations including Ameca splendens, Xenotoca doadrioi, Skiffia multipunctata, and Zoogoneticus tequila.

Other livebearing fish

Interested in conducting research on non-goodeid livebearer strains, including the least killifish (Heterandria formosa) and the wrestling halfbeak (Dermogenys pusilla)? Contact us.

Killifish

We maintain a captive colony of the Cape Lopez lyretail (Aphyosemion australe) and welcome inquiries about joint research on egg laying and embryonic development.

Research and conservation

We maintain captive breeding colonies of Mexican goodeids and other livebearing fishes as well as killifishes. Our research interests include reproduction, embryonic development, and the physiology of gestation. We are also interested in how shared husbandry knowledge can improve the long-term care and breeding of threatened species.

Colaborate with us

We welcome inquiries from researchers, institutions, conservation breeders, and experienced aquarists interested in joint projects. If you have a research question or a project in mind, tell us what you’d like to study and how we might work together.
